washing machine connect to plumbing stack directly?
I need some advice regarding washing machine plumbing. My daughter and soninlaw have an early 60s house with a full basement. Someone moved the laundry to an inconvenient and very small spot also in the basement. We want to move it back to where it probably was originally. In the basement where I think was the original laundry, there are two water lines with shutoffs. There is a big plumbing stack near there that runs from basement floor to upstairs, directly where the main floor bathroom is. This is at the front of the house. At the basement level, the big plumbing stack drain, I think has a round cover plate about 8 inches off the floor, with four square nubs or bolt things. If I look higher up the stack, near the floor of the main level, there is also a Y and it goes up to the bathroom above.

And seeing as how I currently live in an apartment what comes with a washing machine in it, that might not even be my gross waxy build-up.

My clothes are clean and fresh, and the only thing I have to dry in the dryer are the towels and jeans — and only for minutes. No, but I have a good workout stomping the clothes. But, even though I am not out of a job, I continue to do my laundry this way, as it seem it is easier on my clothes, and much easier on my budget!

Installing a washing machine is a snap whether you’re a veteran do-it-yourselfer or have never undertaken a home project. In fact, the most difficult part of the project is getting the washer from the truck to the laundry room. Before You Leave the Store Believe it or not, most washers do not come with the hoses needed to hook them up to your water supply, so make sure you pick up a set of hoses when you buy your new washer. If you’re buying a used washer, you should still get a new set of washer hoses because a burst washing machine hose can cause enormous damage.
Hot to Hot, Cold to Cold Your washer’s hot water and cold water intakes should be clearly marked. Simply screw one end of each hose to each intake. Hand tightening should be enough.

There is no possible way of doing this your drain in your sink wouldnt be able to keep up with the drain pump in the machine. In other words the water would be all over the floor and flood your kitchen.
No idea on the code question But keep in mind this is not “new construction”, so you’d have some leeway on what you do. I personally LOVE having a laundry tub next to the washer. And on one of my homes, the washer exhausts into the tub. You can not connect an ejector or any other kind of pump directly to the washing machine. It is not code permissible.

While it is true that it is better not to use a garbage disposal if you are on a septic system, the plumbing problems that people have with municipal systems stem from putting the wrong things down them. After a time, the grease will harden and form a solid block that will catch everything else coming along. Also you should not shove stems of vegetables and rinds down your garbage disposal because they will also collect and not grind up so well. Things that should go down your garbage disposal is leftover meat, potatoes, and other solid foods which all will grind and break up prior to hitting the sewer system.
People who have used garbage disposals all of their lives find it hard to imagine living without one, simply because they have become used to it. Most disposal units are very handy when it comes to scraping the unfinished meals off of the plates. The garbage disposal serves as a handy repository for the uneaten scraps of food that are left on the plates.
