Mixing is like sculpting. Something the hands do on a board. This is why analog boards remain popular. While these craftsmen may be the last to think they need a digital mixer, they are probably the most suited to realize their benefits, the biggest of which is to be able save and collect these beautiful, hand carved mixdown configurations, with all the send and returns set just right, recallable when the need arises. Professionals doing film scores already know this. They don’t want to waste time remaking the scenes that come up again and again in their work.
It allows them to have templates for the may types of music they are called upon to make. If you are using a digital multi track that already has a built in mixer, you might only need a rackmount mixer for your arsenal of synths. You can route different sources to different tracks easily. Just make sure you have enough preamps to cover your mics.
Anyway to disable firewire bus power? (Hooking up a 6 pin device to the 9 pin port)
Is there an advantage over either? Will performance be affected with either type of interface or is it nothing to be concerned with? I do have an on-board firewire interface on my motherboard but the general consensus is to get a dedicated card which I will do if I go that route.

MAudio Audiophile M Audio’s Audiophile card is the latest addition to its highly successful Delta family of soundcards. That saves a few bucks. Great way to start! Great upgrade from a consumer card. The delta has been out a while and the price has dropped. If you are using separate preamps or have a mixer, that’s all you need. Great for older as well as newer PCs. If you can’t spring for the Delta , the 66 will get the job done admirably.
Uses the same drivers as the famed delta , and it works well on windows XP. Click the pic for more.

To us, this is one of the most important parts of making music and we consider it to be the star on top of the Christmas tree. What is an audio interface? Audio interfaces convert the analog information into digital signals for your production computer to recognize and lay down into your songs. Audio interfaces are the standard sound card for any type of studio.

When the limiter is engaged This encoder sets, and the meter the button will illuminate. It should be noted that the StudioLive prevents you from creating a feedback loop. Subgroups can only be assigned to the main outs, and the aux buses cannot be assigned to a subgroup or to the main outputs. These presets provide a great jumping-off point to create a mix quickly and easily. The StudioLive also allows you to create your own library of presets. Channel Presets Library 4. These presets can be altered, renamed, and overwritten; however, there are 49 additional empty storage locations for you to build your own custom library of channel-strip settings.
The meters in the Fat Channel section can monitor: In addition, the StudioLive provides the added flexibility of routing a playback stream from your audio-recording software to the mixer via the FireWire bus, just as if it were an analog input. Controls the Overall Level of the Channel. Each input channel features a mm long-throw fader for accurate level adjustment.
A monitor mix can be mono or stereo. Most often, an individual live monitor mix is mono and is sent to a floor-wedge or sidefill monitor.
That said, the provision of mac drivers should enable you to use this with a mac, but probably only as a means of inputting midi data i. If you follow the precautions regarding the ORDER of plugging in the USB and switching on carefully, I can see no reason why the Mac won’t detect the presence on the – and to know what it is and how to handle it. Remember to look in the OS Control Panel settings relating to audio devices too.
From what I remember, GB relies to a great extent on its own sampled sounds – so you need to get the to “play” these – at which point you can initiate a “recording” within GB. You’ll need to pay attention to the midi clock settings, as this will change depending on which way you are using the system. There must only be one Master and one slave at any one time.

How To: Upgrade to Studio Monitor Speakers
But where are the products that bridge the gap between extremely pricey consoles and the smaller, singularly focused digital boards like those early innovators? The chasm is thousands of dollars wide. For many studios and music venues, there is no bridging the price gap, thus analog mixing boards still reign supreme.

Many other companies that offer mobile recording interfaces add the cheapest possible microphone preamplifier as an afterthought.
In contrast, the FireStudio Mobile includes custom-designed, high-voltage, discrete, XMAX Class A microphone preamplifiers that are suitable for use with all types of microphones. The job of a microphone preamplifier in an audio interface is to boost a microphone-level signal to line level before conversion to the digital domain. A good preamp boosts the level to almost times that of the original signal, making the preamp one of the most important stages in an interface. A cheap, off-the-shelf, op-amp-type mic preamp delivers thin, noisy, harsh results.

If you have an external audio interface (ie AudioBox, FireStudio, StudioLive, etc..) you would come out of main outputs. If you don’t have an external audio interface you’re best bet is probably the speaker/headphone output (probably a 1/8″ stereo output).
I was looking at buying one of these from an online dealer. It was more than twice the price. This refurbished unit has the same warranty as new and arrived at my door in 2 days. Of all the digital mixers I looked at this was the easiest for me to use. I was able to install and have a basic set up for 8 mics, two guitars, piano, and an electronic drum set in 45 minutes or so. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a digital mixer for a small to medium sized church.

It does not have a firewire card, but I figured it would be simple enough to install one. So I bought one, put it in, and plugged in my recording interface Presonus Firepod but to no avail. I went back to the store, switched it out, and tried again. So I did some research and found this http: I tried one more time, cause I found a forum and a guy said that Texas Instruments cards almost always work with Presonus hardward.

They have served me well in college and the large subwoofer made for an excellent footrest. However, they are typical “computer speakers” in the sense that they don’t accurately reproduce each frequency and provide too much bass, even with the subwoofer on the lowest setting. I guess you could say I’ve evolved into an audiophile and have realized that bass isn’t everything. I like to hear crisp highs and punchy mids as well. That has led me to connect the Logitech’s to my HDTV for the time being, and upgrade my computer setup with studio monitors.
Never heard of ’em. Studio monitors are speakers that have been tuned to have a very flat response. In conjunction with the speakers, a specially built box and baffles to direct the flow of air ensure that no frequency is emphasized more than any other frequency. This ends up producing a sound more akin to how the music you’re listening to was actually recorded.
